ethsix* magazine celebrates our blog launch with evening of images, words and tunes from your multifarious city by the bay A unique collaboration between art and writing, this exhibition will generate a schema of the surreal, metaphysical San Francisco. This exhibition gives Ethsix*, Instant City and Watchword Press, three local beloved independent publications, and opportunity to bring the art and writers folded into the pages of their publications on to the same stage, side by side, in three dimensions. The artists and writers included will reflect upon intangible elements and conditions of the city, from the hundreds of faces passed and forgotten daily to emotional and historical cityscapes. image: beryl fine, jana flynn, yael martinez, linda nguyen, hilary pecis, rachel styer, nadim sabella, michael page & adam wier. readings: from Ethsix*, Instant City and Watchword Press tunes : tion: monica canilao & eve ekman The evening will also be graced with the exceptional musical stylings of two San Francisco musical acts whose tunes range from free jazz to psychedelic sound-scopes. live projection: amber caddy. @ 111 Minna Gallery http://www.111minnagallery.com/archives/ic1.jpg

7:00pm APOCOLYPTIC EVENT
Borderlands is glad to welcome Whitley Strieber, author of 2012: The War for Souls for a just-added event! From Publishers Weekly: "Strieber's epic sequel to 2006's THE GRAYS blends equal parts science fiction thriller, supernatural horror and provocative spiritual speculation. As struggling author Wylie Dale works on his latest novel, which revolves around an upcoming date when the earth crosses both the galactic equator and the solar ecliptic - a time that the Maya predicted would mark the cataclysmic end of this age - he begins to uncover evidence that what he's writing about is actually happening on a parallel earth. If nothing is done, on December 21, 2012, gateways will open into this world and reptilian invaders will not only enslave humanity but feast on their succulent souls as well." Join us for this unusual opportunity to meet Whitley Strieber! Borderlands Books (866 Valencia St at 20th st.) Seriously, this shit is crazy and totally beleiveable and really fucking freaky!

7:30 pm SUPERTRASH PEEPSHOW
Tonight we present a one-of-a-kind slideshow and talk previewing Supertrash, a new book of vintage artwork from trash films and other forms of disreputable pop culture. The curator tells us we will “discover secret schools of design such as Abstract Beatnikism, Xerox Pop and SharpTrash. Also covered will be themes of ‘comicbooklook’ and ‘pulp envy.’” Confused? Well, we are too, but we promise an unforgettable evening. Followed by a 35mm screening of the 1973 ultra-rarity Fleshpot on 42nd Street by Andy Milligan, a tawdry, nihilistic portrait of Times Square scum. $6-8 @ Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Screening Room (701 Mission Street)

12:00 PM - 2:00 PM CRITICAL NATIVE AMERICAN RALLY AT UC BERKELEY
All Native American people and social justice allies are urged to attend and bring signs to a vocal and peaceful demonstration designed to protect Native ancestral remains and sacred objects currently housed at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). UCB is attempting to terminate the critically important Tribal consultation and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) program at the university. This tribally-supported NAGPRA program was developed in accordance with federal and state laws and is a semi-autonomous unit within the Hearst Museum. NAGPRA is a federal law that mandates federally funded museums to conduct an inventory of and identify Native human remains and cultural items in their collections. In addition the museum is charged to consult with culturally affiliated Indian tribes, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians regarding repatriation. The NAGPRA program at UCB is responsible for insuring the museum complies with the Act and repatriate items when appropriate. The Native NAGPRA Coalition has been calling for a meeting with UCB Chancellor Birgeneau for months to resolve the problem. Staff of Governor Schwarzenegger's Office have also been attempting to assist in scheduling the meeting. Yet, the highest ranking UCB official refuses to meet. @ Sproul Plaza, Bancroft Way, University of California Berkeley

5:00pm FRIDAY NIGHTS AT THE DE YOUNG!
Be among the first to view the de Young’s new exhibition, Michael Arcega: Homing Pidgin, this Friday night. Known for his whimsical sculptural objects made out of nontraditional materials, Michael Arcega references the encounter between western Europeans and the foreigners they colonized. As a Filipino artist, he is especially interested in the effects of that exchange in the island countries of the South Pacific. Arcega uses witty verbal puns and visual connections to link past history to present political realities. In Wilsey Court from 6:30–8:30 pm, Que Calor will perform live music that incorporates the genres of Latin, jazz, and Afro-Cuban music. The de Young Poetry Series also continues this week with a reading and book signing by Pulitzer Prize-winning Jorie Graham from 7:00¬–8:15 pm in the Koret Auditorium. Tickets for the Poetry Series are sold separately from Friday Night tickets and are $8 for members and $12 for non-members. Regular museum admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects. For tickets, call 866-912-6326 or visit http://www.museumtix.com/. @50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive Golden Gate Park

PuppetLOVE! A Festival of Radical Puppetry is a gathering point for West Coast experimental, political and emerging puppetry. Originally produced by Wise Fool in their tiny storefront space as a one night benefit performance in 1997, PuppetLOVE! has gone through many permutations--running as long as five days with workshops, gallery exhibition, rude & crude adult pupptry, children's mini-festival and video componants. Since 2001, PuppetLOVE! has been produced by a production team consisting of Wise Fool artistic director, K.Ruby and co-producers Kate Duffly and Liz Lisle. Other key players have been Stephen Clifford, Bret Hitchcock and Jonathan Youtt. PuppetLOVE! has been presented at Cellspace, Somarts Theatre, CounterPULSE and several other smaller venues. Over the course of its history PuppetLOVE! has presented the work of well over 200 puppeteers. PuppetLOVE! seeks to nurture the development of new forms and traditions in puppetry and to bring together puppeteers and puppet theatres that challenge the popular perception of puppetry as an antiquated or irrelevant art form. @ CounterPULSE (1310 Mission Street @ 9th Street (SOMA) Tel. 415.905.5958)$15 - $20

8:00 pm SOCIETY OF THE SPECTACLE by Guy Debord
Guy Debord's fourth film still stirs debate today, It uses a soundtrack of excerpts from his most renowned Situationist text "Society of the Spectacle" and a collage of documentary, still image and detourned movie clips. The English-subtitled version that has previously circulated is so dense that one cannot attend to the delicate, blasphemous and ironic montage at all. Tonight's English version of the film uses Ken Knabb's authorized translation of the script, read as voiceover by Dore Bowen and with video ripped, edited and produced by Hugo Ball Room Labs. Now you can watch and hear the whole film. The Society of the Spectacle will be preceded by Debord's short, Refutation of All the Judgments, Pro or Con, Thus Far Rendered on the Film 'The Society of the Spectacle' (subtitles by Keith Sanborn). Refutation will show at 8:00 PM sharp. The Society of the Spectacle will show at 8:30 PM, followed by questions and discussion. Artists' for Television Access (ATA): (992 Valencia Street at 21st) $6-$10 suggested donation

Photography, etchings, paintings and digital imagery are among the media employed to illustrate the process of change.
